Impulsive Noise Characterization in Narrowband Power Line Communication
نویسندگان
چکیده
Currently, narrowband Power line communication (PLC) is considered as an attractive communication system in smart grid environments for applications such as advanced metering infrastructure (AMI). In this paper, we will present a comprehensive comparison and analysis in time and frequency domain of noise measured in China and Italy. In addition, impulsive noise in these two countries are mainly analyzed and modeled using two probability based models, Middleton Class A (MCA) model and α stable distribution model. The results prove that noise measured in China is rich in impulsive noise, and can be modeled well by α stable distribution model, while noise measured in Italy has less impulsive noise, and can be better modeled by MCA model.

Narrowband OFDM Power Line Communication (NB-OFDM PLC) systems are a key component of current and future smart grids. NB-OFDM PLC systems enable nextgeneration smart metering, distributed control, and monitoring applications over existing power delivery infrastructure. It has been shown that the performance of these systems is severely limited by impulsive, non-Gaussian additive noise. A substa...

High-data-rate narrowband Power Line Communication (PLC) is a prominent candidate for smart grid communications in the low-voltage grid at low operational costs. However, the power-line channel is fairly harsh in terms of time-variance, frequency selectivity, and observable impulsive and narrowband noise sources. These unpredictable phenomena motivate selective measurement campaigns in addition...

This paper introduces three coding strategies for using the Luby Transform (LT) code in a relay aided power-line communication scheme. In the first method, the relay decodes the received packets and re-encodes them for transmission towards the destination. In the second method, the relay only forwardes a random linear combination of its received packets towards the destination, while in the thi...

Future Smart Grid systems will intelligently monitor and control energy flows in order to improve the efficiency and reliability of power delivery. This monitoring and control requires low-delay, highly reliable communication between customers, local utilities and regional utilities. A vital part of future Smart Grids is the two-way communication links between smart meters at the customer sites...
متن کاملCoding for a Terrible Channel
We describe coding and modulation aspects for a channel with different kinds of a-typical noise disturbances. An example of such a channel is the powerline communication (PLC) channel, but the same noise disturbances can be observed in for instance xDSL communications. The channel is assumed to suffer from background noise, impulsive noise, narrowband noise and fading. In addition, in PLC, the ...
